Volunteer Opportunities

Would you like to make a difference in bringing Science, Technology, Engineering and Math to our Los Angeles High School students? Volunteer at a League or Inter-league event!  Training is provided.

Type of help we need for Leagues is listed below. Commitment is 4 hrs on 4 weekends, either Saturday or Sunday, between Nov 5 to Jan 28. Locations are Inglewood, Hemet, Palmdale, Monrovia, Santa Clarita, Claremont and Los Angeles. Select one of the Los Angeles events and pick a position you would like to support. Role descriptions are:
Role General Description
Registration Check-in Manage all activities for FTC Team registration at Registration Table. Provide direction, assistance and information to event attendees.
Volunteer Check-in Manage all activities for volunteer registration at Registration Table.
Scorekeeper Manage and operate the scoring and field control systems. Communicate scores. Play a critical role in ensuring smooth flow of match play and maintaining the pace of the event.
Field Manager Participate in field set-up and maintenance, direct activity on the field to ensure smooth execution of the matches. Play a critical role in ensuring smooth flow of match play, and maintaining the pace of the event.
Field Tech Advisor (FTA) Debugs technical/electrical issues that happen in tournament or pit area during the competition. oversee all technical aspects of tournament area.
Judge Advisor Head Judge of the tournament- does not participate in actual panel but oversees and manages discussions and awards selections
Judge Select team award recipients through interaction with teams. Documentation regarding team background information is provided to familiarize judges with teams.
Judge Assistant Assist Judge Advisor. Work hours are from 7:30 am – 10am.
Emcee Primary individual responsible for setting the tone of the competition. Create and sustain an exciting and fun atmosphere throughout the event. Most visible presence at the event; embodies the spirit of FIRST and is the consummate FIRST ambassador. Play a critical role in ensuring smooth flow of match play, and maintaining the pace of the event. Work hours are from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm.
Game Announcer Works togther with the Emcee. Provides play by play announcing for each of the matches. Keeps the audience engaged.
DJ Responsible for managing music and general sounds of tournament areas
Head Referee Observe team matches, identify rule violations, and “call” them. Calculate the official score of the matches and participate in deliberations regarding contested calls. Work under the direction of the Head Referee. Play a critical role in ensuring smooth flow of match play, and maintaining the pace of the event.

Hardware Inspector Inspectors conduct hardware checks of the robots to verify that they conform to the rules, specifications, and requirements of the competition. All inspectors must read and understand the rules pertaining to robots. There will be a mandatory training on the duties of the inspectors prior to the event.
